Recording Macros on The X50Q or 5QS
Das Keyboard Macros Explained
For this article, keys and key combinations will be represented by bold italics , unless specifically referred to as a key.
The 5QS and X50 have the ability to create macros and save them to keys on your keyboard, so that any sequence of keystrokes can be reproduced with a single keystroke. The most common uses for macros are cookie cutter email responses or to retrieve frequently used code chunks. To create a macro, see the simple instructions below.
X50Q Macros:
To record macros on the X50Q, follow these instructions:
Press FN + F11 to enter Macro Creation.
Press the key you'd like to have trigger the macro.
Press the keys that you'd like to be in your macro sequence.
Press FN + F11 to exit and save your macro.
To reset the macros on the X50Q follow these instructions:
- Press FN + F11 to enter Macro Creation.
- Press the key you want to reset.
- Press FN + F11 to exit and save.
5QS Macros:
- FN + F11 turns on macro creation. This will turn all lights on the keyboard off; and will cause the volume knob to flash red. This state is to show that you’ve entered macro creation, but have not started your macro.
PRESS ANY KEY to assign the macro to that key. The 5QS will show you that this was done correctly by flashing the volume knob Blue and turning your chosen key Red.
PRESS THE KEY SEQUENCE that you want to trigger within the macro. The macro can be up to 65 keystrokes long (If the keystroke limit is reached the keyboard will flash and the macro will exit and lose progress.); this includes commands such as Ctr +V. Please note that macros are not time recorded, and will auto-ignore timing between keys.
FN + F11 to exit Macro Editing mode and save your macro. Once the macro is saved, the characters entered for the macro will replay every time the key the macro is saved to is pressed.
To Clear A Macro On The 5QS:
- Press FN + F11 to enter Macro Creation.
- Press MACRO KEY YOU'D LIKE TO CLEAR.
- Press FN + F11 to exit and save.
